What We Learn From BSB Songs: More Than That

mtt

So I know I took a little break during the holidays. I’m a full time retail manager (nothing glamorous, I know) so that’s the craziest work time of the year for me. But I have returned in time for the awesomeness that is 2017. This year is going to be great! I felt it was fitting, for my first post of the year to be one of my go-to favorite posts to do…looking at the lyrics of our favorite Backstreet Boys songs.

This one? More Than That. So, let’s get going!

I can see that you’ve been crying
You can’t hide it with a lie
What’s the use in you denying
That what you have is wrong

1. Well, looks like they’re observant at the very least.

2. Wait, how do you know what I have is wrong? What if it’s right for me?

I heard him promise you forever
But forever’s come and gone
Baby he would say whatever
It takes to keep you blind
To the truth between the lines

3. Um, now I’m a little scared. Have you been stalking us? When did you hear this? Are we bugged?

4. Hold up. Forever doesn’t end. That’s the opposite of forever. So how can it have come and gone?

5. I can’t trust you to know what he’d say or wouldn’t say cause you have a motive. Besides you don’t know how forever works.

Oh I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you more than that

6. More than what? I need specifics!

7. If I’m with someone, am I really lonely?

8. I’m listening, don’t be pushy. I still want to know more than what.

Baby you deserve much better
What’s the use in holding on
Don’t you see it’s now or never
Cause I just can’t be friends
Baby knowing in the end

9. Quick question, why are you trying to steal away someone else’s girlfriend?

10. Wait, friendship is important. This is a real problem.

11. How do you know how things would be in the end?

That I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say

12. You still haven’t specified more than what. More than…a dog loves? A fly? That homeless guy down the road? MORE. THAN. WHAT. I mean I could assume you mean the boyfriend you’re trying to steal me from but you won’t say!

13. What if I don’t want to listen?

14. This song is kind of demanding.

There’s not a day that passes by
I don’t wonder why we haven’t tried
It’s not too late to change your mind
So take my hand, don’t say goodbye

15. Okay, I’m starting to think the Boys in this song needed to read He’s Just Not That Into You. We could just replace all the “he’s” with “she’s”. It might help.

16. It is too late!

I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back

Oh I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you, oh I will love you more than that
I won’t say the words, then take them back
Don’t give loneliness a chance
Baby listen to me when I say
I will love you more than that

17. You know, you can promise anything if you’re not specific.

Conclusion: When The Boys have been friend-zoned by someone, they try to steal the girl away from their current boyfriend. In this case, using vague promises and possible stalker behavior. Which…they get away with because of their pretty faces and pretty voices.
