Flashback Friday: DJ Kid Nicky

Okay so I know our last Flashback Friday post was also focused on Mr. Carter, but who can blame us when he’s provided so many hilarious soundbites?  I’m already beginning a not-so-silent campaign to get Rose to start posting all of his Nick’s Corner videos from the Never Gone era… but I digress…

For anyone that was a fan of the Backstreet Boys in the late 90s/early 2000s, you know that pop music was like high school.  There were the jocks (boybands), the prom queens (Britney and Christina), the wannabe punk kids (Avril and Good Charlotte), the *actual* punk kids (Limp Bizkit and Korn), and so many more characters all blended into a beautiful moment in pop culture.  Sure it could never last, but any time these figures collided it was a GOOD time.  I can’t be the only person that recalls holding their breath as MTV organized a class photo for the MTV Video Music Awards in 1999!

ANNNNNNNNNYWAY, since I can hear you wondering when I’m going to get to the Backstreet Boys portion of this post, I wanna bring all of your back… way back… to a time when people legitimately listened to the radio and Punk’d had yet to air…

It was April of 2000 and someone let Nick Carter into a Tampa area radio station and hooked him up with Britney Spears’ personal cell number.  Some guy answered… some guy you can hear Britney refer to as ‘Justin’.  Yep.  You read that right.  This happened.

Nick’ laughter throughout the crank call has got to be the best part of the whole thing, but I’ll let you folks decide for yourselves what the most amazing aspect of this had been.  Was it the fact that these were 19 year old kids acting out normal teenage shenanigans?  Was it that this happened pre-Britney and Justin admitting they were dating?  Or was it that Nick Carter’s DJ name (can we bring that back, by the way?!)?

For those of you too young to remember the golden age of 90s pop, please educate yourselves.  For those that do remember?  Let’s all take a wonderful stroll down memory lane!
